The Tampa Bay Buccaneers decided to part ways with veteran running back Peyton Hillis on Saturday. The Buccaneers released the veteran after two weeks into the season. Hillis was brought in to compete for a back up roster spot to Doug Martin but was seated at number four on the depth chart. Former Rutgers running back Brian Leonard and Mike James are currently behind Martin on the Buccaneers roster. Hillis had not appeared in any regular season games for the Buccaneers in 2013.
The bruising back became a fan favorite with the Cleveland Browns after coming over in a trade from the Denver Broncos. His best season came in 2010 when he rushed for 1,177 yards and 10 touchdowns. His performance landed him on the cover of the popular video game, Madden, and his career went down hill from there.
2011 was a season filled with strange behavior and injuries. He joined the Kansas City Chiefs last season and didn’t really have an impact on the Chiefs offense, rushing for just 309 yards and one touchdown.
