How fast have the Green Bay Packers fallen, and so quickly. A  franchise that had arguably the best quarterback in the league under center just weeks ago, to a club which has already named a quarterback, Scott Tolzien, a player off their practice squad as the starter this coming Sunday. Now it appears that Matt Flynn will come full circle and land back in Green Bay.

The Packers now suddenly find themselves in a situation that they’ve not seem in over a decade. The need at the quarterback position. Brett Favre rolled out every week and Aaron Rodgers has been very dependable in his career with the Packers. This comfort zone has also allowed the Packers to get soft at the backup quarterback position.

Seneca Wallace was hired this offseason and he lasted less than a half in his first start this week. Scott Tolzien came in. While Tolzien lost the game, he did play better than expected, but why didn’t the Packers prepare the backup quarterback position better heading into this season?

So, according to multiple reports, here comes Matt Flynn back home in what appears to be the ultimate Hail Mary play at quarterback. The Packers could have had their former backup to Rodgers weeks ago, but bypassed. As a prayer suggests, “now in the hour of our need”, the Packers bring back a player that has started just one game since he departed the land of cheeseheads via free agency and made a boatload of money.

Many reports suggested that the Packers were worried about his lingering elbow injury. However, Green Bay is in serious need of anyone that can throw the football. If he is indeed signed this week, Flynn will collect his fourth paycheck from an NFL team this season, making more than Russell Wilson, Colin Kaepernick, RG III and Andrew Luck combined. Sick.
